Homecoming for Larry Fonacier

Larry Fonacier's current championship is a sweet one. It's his first Philippine Cup trophy, his first with his new team on the first time he joined them, his first back-to-back championship which is both against SMB - his third team where he wasn't able to get a trophy and not even able to play that much for them. In a span of five years in the league, he played four semis, two finals with Redbull and three semis, two finals with Alaska. He sure is a winner and he deserves all of that.

Larry got traded to Talk N Text August of last year. It was a surprised especially to Alaska fans. We thought Larry was instrumental to the team's last two final stints. There are a lot of reasons and many had been said, it's only up to this time though that the trade proved to be a good one for Larry and the Talk N Text.
In the team's run in the eliminations where they end up first with 11-3 win-loss record, Fonacier's average was 29 minutes, 10 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists per ball game. He was a starter for several games as well. During the quarterfinals against Rain-or-Shine he scored his conference high 21 points with 5 rebounds 4 assists in 28 minutes. Semifinals seen him struggling on the first two games but got his scoring going in Game 3 where he was named Best Player of the Game by getting 15 points and 4 rebounds. He's average in the semis were 8 points, 4 rebounds 1 assist 1 steal in 28 minutes (for six games). Come finals he had an average of 6.83 points, 2.83 rebounds 1 assist in 19 minutes of play. His contribution in the crucial Game 5 where he scored 3 straight triples buried the San Miguel that time.

It was like Larry Fonacier's Ateneo days all over again. He finally got to feel at home maybe because he is surrounded by Ateneo people, practicing over at the Ateneo Gym, even wearing the same blue jersey. Talk N Text is a new home though that he sure will treasure and enjoy. And this is just the beginning, the team is on a mission and Larry Fonacier will definitely do his part on that mission.
